Frequently asked questions about disruptions
How do you inform customers about disruptions?
In the event of disruptions, we inform our customers primarily by means of the disruption notifications and maps on our website. We may also send text messages to customers about planned construction sites and more extensive disruptions. Furthermore, the fault numbers for electricity, district heating and water serve customers around the clock.
I did not receive a text message about the work interruption in advance. What is the reason for this?
The SMS service we use to notify you about district heating and water disruptions automatically retrieves the public telephone numbers registered at the addresses in the disturbance area via number enquiry. Numbers are also retrieved from Seinäjoen Energia’s customer database.
If you did not receive a text message, the reason may be that you have a company telephone subscription or that you have a secret number or a prepaid subscription. You can update your contact information and enable disruption text messages by registering your phone number in F24 service Alert text message service.
Why does the electricity sometimes come back and go out during a disruption?
Sometimes in the event of a power outage, it is necessary to try to switch on the power several times to find the exact location of the fault. In this case, the household’s electricity may turn on and off for several times before it stays on.
Why is the tap water brown after a water outage?
After a water outage, precipitates and rust may come loose from the water pipes, which can cause the water to become cloudy and brown in colour. These are not harmful to your health, but they can stain your laundry, for example.
If the water is brown, run plenty of water from all taps for around ten minutes and observe how the water quality changes. Once the water starts clearing after running it, you can drink and use it normally again.
Why is it not advisable to use hot water in a district heating property during a power outage?
If the disruption in district heating is due to a power outage, please only use cold water. On district heating properties, hot water can get extremely hot during an outage.
Can water be drained into the sewer during a power outage?
During a power outage, water may come out of the tap. You can drink and use it, but avoid draining water into the sewer due to the risk of flooding the sewer network. It is recommended to place a bowl under the tap to collect any dripping water. Avoid excessive use of water (e.g. showering, bathing, washing up and using the toilet).
Avoid flushing the toilet. If you need to use the toilet, only flush once the power comes back on.
