District heating disruptions

District heating is a reliable and steady form of heating. However, if unexpected disruptions occur, we are ready to respond to them around the clock.

We provide information about district heating disruptions in the disruption notifications and map on our website. Additionally, our on-call number serves you 24/7. You can also fill in an electronic non-urgent fault report form, which we process on weekdays.

You can use the district heating 24/7 fault number to report faults, such as district heating leaks or district heating outages, or ask questions about the functioning of district heating.

Checklist for district heating disruptions before contacting us

Before contacting us, you can go through the checklist below to check whether the disruption is in the district heating network or in customer equipment:

Check if there is a supply disruption in district heating

  • District heating work interruptions and supply disruptions are indicated on our disruption map and notifications.
    • If we know the customer’s telephone number, we will inform the properties in the area of planned work interruptions in advance by text message.
  • If the disruption in the supply of district heating is not indicated in the disruption map or notifications, the fault may be in the customer’s district heating equipment.

Check the following in the heat distribution room:

  • Are the valves open?
  • In the district heating pressure gauges, what is the differential pressure in the district heating network?
    • If the differential pressure is 0 bar, the fault is in the district heating network; otherwise, the fault is in the customer’s district heating equipment.

If the fault is in the property’s district heating equipment, the resident must contact a HVAC contractor of their choice. Seinäjoen Energia has its own local partner network with which we cooperate in troubleshooting and repairing district heating equipment. You can find our partners’ contact details and prices on our website:

Those living in terraced houses and apartment buildings should contact the housing company’s property manager or property maintenance.

Instructions in case of a prolonged interruption of heat supply

Disruption during summer

  • The supply of hot water stops because a district heating property does not have a backboiler. Use hot water only when it is necessary.
  • If the disruption is due to a power outage, use only cold water. On district heating properties, hot water can get extremely hot during an outage.

Disruption during the heating season

  • Use hot water only when it is necessary.
    • If the disruption is due to a power outage, use only cold water. On district heating properties, hot water can get extremely hot during an outage.
  • Stop the air conditioning of the property if possible and avoid ventilating the apartment.
  • If necessary, use a fireplace or other auxiliary heating, e.g. an interior heater of a car.
  • Provide additional insulation for frost-sensitive equipment, such as water meters and pipes.
  • After the outage, revert all devices to the normal mode.

Check the district heating equipment regularly

It is advisable to carry out a visual inspection of the heat distribution room at least once a week, for example, for possible leaks. The pressure of the heating network should be checked, especially during the heating season. In single-storey houses, the network pressure should be around 1 bar. In two-storey houses, the network pressure should be kept at around 1.5 bar. The pressure can be increased via the network charging valves with a heat exchanger.
